Worship & Faith > Music
Music is an essential and strong component of worship life at Cherokee Park United Church. With strong leadership from the music director and choir the congregation is developing a broad repertoire of song, drawing from the diverse sounds of the world church as well as the familiar sounds from the European tradition. Congas and other percussion instruments are a frequent part of worship, but so too is a new 14 rank pipe organ and grand piano.
The music director, Ione Boettcher-Butler, is a highly trained musician with a passion for a wide and diverse range of music. The choir, which she directs, meets regularly on Wednesday evenings and is an integral part of the worship experience.
Sunday morning worship includes a blend of hymns with a wide range of songs and response representing a broad diversity of cultures. Piano, drums, guitar, organ, and various other instruments are a regular part of the dynamic music ministry at Cherokee Park United Church. We include music from many lands and cultures because we enjoy the melodies and rhythms, and to remember that Christianity is an historic and global faith.
